This unpretentious action thriller with its combination of eastern martial arts and western urban grit may not be rocket science, but it's still an enjoyable ride. Playing with the clichés of the buddy movie, this has DMX's street-wise entrepreneur forced into an uneasy alliance with Taiwanese intelligence agent Li after his young daughter is kidnapped by Li's former partner (Mark Dacascos). Though the hip-hop influences of Bartkowiak's previous work still dominate the tale's soundtrack and language, he seems to have refined his film-making style. There's a lot more wit, stereotypes are inverted and both the action sequences and special effects are imaginative yet believable. Li's English remains clumsy, but he's a gloriously entertaining fighter, and it's pleasing to see a feature where all the female protagonists give as good as they get.~false~21/11/2008~23:45~01:35~110 Grand Slam Darts Highlights~~~~~~false~false~false~false~false~false~false~false~~~Sport~Matt Smith presents highlights from the seventh day of the tournament, as the four quarter-finals are played over the best of 15 legs. It's ultra-glossy froth, and the smart plot about Day and Hudson sharing a telephone party line won an Oscar for best story and screenplay. Hudson displays a flair for adroit humour, but the funniest material goes to Tony Randall (never better) and the acerbic Thelma Ritter, and both shine through the heavily piled-on glamour (the hallmark of co-producer Ross Hunter). Scientist Norman Spencer (Ford in distinctly non-heroic mode) and his wife Claire (Pfeiffer) have renovated their idyllic Vermont lakeside house, but their domestic bliss is disturbed when Claire starts seeing and hearing ghostly apparitions. After suspecting their strange neighbour of foul play - a subplot that echoes Rear Window - it soon becomes obvious that an event in the past has returned to haunt them. A creaking cocktail of light suspense and implausible plotting that pushes every tried-and-tested scare button, this mass-market shocker is illuminated by Pfeiffer's wholly believable performance as the traumatised wife. She shines throughout the story - co-written by actor Craig Ferguson - as the Cardiff teenager who discovers her real father (Ferguson) is a washed-up former pop star and she was the result of a brief fling he had with her groupie mother (Jemma Redgrave). Naturally he discovers that his long-lost daughter is a singing prodigy and sets about carving out a career for her, giving Church the chance to tackle a variety of musical styles from Gershwin to Motown. This is all very cosy but also desperately old-fashioned - positioning Church as a modern-day Deanna Durbin - and is undone by the often uncomfortable marrying of her soprano voice to non-operatic material.~false~29/11/2008~02:45~04:30~105 ITV Nightscreen~~~~~~false~false~false~false~false~false~false~false~~~Interests~Text-based information service.~false~29/11/2008~04:30~05:30~60 ITV Early Morning News~~~~~~false~false~false~true~true~false~false~false~~~News and Current Affairs~The latest national and international news.~false~29/11/2008~05:30~06:00~30 Mopatop's Shop~~~~~~false~false~false~true~true~false~false~false~~~Children~Mopatop and his assistant Puppyduck keep a wondrous shop where you can get everything you could ever want.
